Tips For Installing Storage Shelves On Your Own
Shelves are awesome if you have the need for some extra space. If you are an organised person and do not like things to be in clutter, then learning how to install a storage shelf is just the right thing to do. Installing storage shelves are easy. You just have to keep certain things in mind. You can go to any local home stores and buy a do-it-your-self shelf kit. It takes about an hour and half to have the shelves set up and all you need is some tools that are easily available and can be used by anyone.
So here is a list of some of the things you require to install storage shelves yourself:
- Electronic stud locator
- Shelving standards, twin or single track
- A level
- Shelve brackets
- Drill
- Drill bit 1/2 inch
- Drill bit 1/4 inch
- Flathead screws 1 1/4 inch
- Shelves
- Pencil
- Ruler
The first thing you have to do is to find the studs in the wall. For this, use a stud locator. Once you have located the stud, mark the point with a pencil. Use a ruler to correctly find the other point in case you are using a twin track. It is important to follow these steps in order to hang the shelves properly. Remember to asses the kind of things you will be putting on the shelves. If heavy objects are involved, you may have to use three standards on three studs beneath it.
Now, use the standards; these are long metal strips where the brackets will be fixed. Be careful with the height; this is where you will be hanging your shelves later. Now, use a level to see if the standards are perfectly aligned. See if the bubble is properly lined. Once that is taken care of, mark the top and the bottom of the standard. Drill these points for each of the standards and drill the screws in these points to fix them to the wall.
Now get the brackets and fix them in place along the standards. Be careful to set all the brackets on the exact same height for each of the standards. Now, put the shelf on the bracket and mark the bracket holes point on the shelf. Drill these points and put it back on the brackets and drill in the screws. Repeat this process for each of the shelves till you are left with your desired outcome. Now you deserve a pat on the back for installing storage shelves on your own.
